The Storm on the Horizon

It started like any other day, but it ended with a few words that would change the trajectory of my life forever. "You have breast cancer." In that moment, the world seemed to stop spinning. The storm I had seen others weather was now directly in my path.

Fear was the first emotion—cold and paralyzing. But as I looked at the road ahead, I remembered the buffalo. When a storm comes, cows run away from it, prolonging their suffering. Buffalo turn and charge directly into it. By running into the storm, they minimize the time they spend in the pain and uncertainty.

I decided then and there: I would not run away. I would be a buffalo. I would face this diagnosis head-on, with every ounce of strength I could muster.
